In this episode of the Emoroid Digest Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Jessica Allegretti at The Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Allegretti serves as the Director of Clinical Research and is the Associate Director of the Crohn’s and Colitis Center. She developed the hospital’s Fecal Microbiota Transplantation Program and has grown to become an international expert on the topic of FMT. We discussed her journey through medicine, mentorship, and the C. diff guidelines released by the American College of Gastroenterology in 2021.

In this episode of the Emoroid Digest Podcast we sit down with our guest Dr. Prakash Gyawali and discuss the ACG Clinical Guidelines on the Clinical Use of Esophageal Physiologic Testing.
Dr. Prakash Gyawali is an academic gastroenterologist at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. He is a Professor of Medicine, Director of the Neurogastroenterology and Motility Program, and Program Director of the Gastroenterology Fellowship Training program at Washington University in St. Louis. His academic interests include esophageal motility, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and functional disorders. He is involved in motility testing using high-resolution manometry, esophageal ambulatory pH and impedance monitoring, wireless pH monitoring, and endoscopic functional lumen imaging probe (FLIP). He is actively involved in clinical research involving neurogastroenterology and motility, and has published over 250 original articles, invited reviews and book chapters.

In this episode of The Emoroid Digest Podcast, we will be discussing the recent American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) Guidelines on the Management of Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia. Our guest for the episode is Dr. Shailja Shah. She was the co-lead of AGA’s two technical reviews regarding gastric intestinal metaplasia.
Dr. Shailja Shah is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Diego, staff gastroenterologist at the VA in San Diego, and is part of the Cancer Control Program at UCSD Moores Cancer Center. She completed her internal medicine training at UCSF, followed by a fellowship and chief year at Mount Sinai in NYC, as well as a visiting clinical rotation in Tokyo Japan that was focused on gastric cancer screening and surveillance.
She leads a multidisciplinary research program that aims to define non-genetic, genetic, and systems-level determinants of H pylori treatment- and disease-related clinical outcomes, including gastric cancer, among high-risk populations, such as US Veterans and non-white racial/ethnic and immigrant groups. Dr. Shah’s research and public policy initiatives promote gastric cancer prevention and early detection efforts, such as gastric cancer screening and preneoplasia surveillance, among these high-risk groups.
Dr. Shah has given several national and international talks related to H pylori and gastric intestinal metaplasia. She has published nearly 100 articles and holds active funding from the VA, NIH, and AGA.

In this episode of the Emoroid Digest Podcast, we discuss the American College of Gastroenterology Clinical Guidelines in the Diagnosis and Management of Idiosyncratic Drug-Induced Liver Injury. We sit down with one of the senior authors of the guideline, Dr. Naga Chalasani.
Dr. Chalasani has been key in aiding our understanding of the fields of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and Drug-Induced Liver Injury (DILI). He has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1999. He is an elected member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and the American Association of Physicians (AAP). He is also a former graduate of Emory University.

In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Alexandre Nuzzo and discuss a recent review in the Lancet Gastroenterology Journal entitled, “Prevention and Treatment of Nutritional Complications After Bariatric Surgery”. Dr. Nuzzo is an expert in intestinal failure and is active in managing the clinical care of a novel GI Stroke Center in France treating patients with mesenteric ischemia. He is also the first international guest on the Emoroid Digest Podcast.

In this episode, we take a deep dive into Grade Methodology. To do this we spend some time with Dr. Bryan Sauer.
Dr. Sauer is a gastroenterologist with advanced endoscopy training who currently practices at the University of Virginia. His research interests include eosinophilic esophagitis as well as quality and efficiency in the endoscopy unit. In 2019, founded an international volunteer program in which he leads clinical care teams to Guatemala to perform endoscopy.

Dr. Shazia Siddique is a gastroenterologist and health services researcher who practices out of the University of Pennsylvania Perleman, School of medicine. Her interests are broad and include the integration of evidence-based practices into clinical care, quality improvement, and health policy as she was the prior National Policy Chair for the American Medical Student Association. She is also the founding director of AGA’s congressional advocate program.

Mark Pimentel, MD is the head of the Pimentel Laboratory and Executive Director of the Medically Associated Science and Technology Program (MAST) at Cedars-Sinai. His research includes but is not limited to irritable bowel syndrome, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and better understanding and elucidating the clinical significance of the gut microbiome.

On the inaugural episode of The Emoroid Digest Podcast, we sit with Dr. Aasma Shaukat and discuss the recent American College of Gastroenterology guidelines on Colorectal Cancer Screening.
Dr. Aasma Shaukat is a Professor of Medicine and the Director of GI Outcomes Research at NYU. Her areas of research are colon cancer prevention, screening and long-term outcomes. Dr. Aasma Shaukat is also a graduate of Emory University's GI fellowship.
